Our current activities include:
Water Color Class and Coloring for Adults - Monday’s at 1:30 p.m. - Do you have an interest in water coloring? It takes space, inspiration, and motivation, and we can help. The cost is $1 per week to the Big Spring Senior Center, and $5 per week to the instructor. Class size is limited. Call 717-776-4478 to reserve your seat. If water coloring is not your thing but you love experimenting with colors, we provide colored pencils and adult coloring books. Drop ins are welcome.
Game Night - Every third Monday at 6:30 p.m. - Come join an evening of games with Bob Ballard and gang. Bring a snack if you would like.
Walk with Ease - Tuesday’s and Friday’s at 9 a.m. (April through October) - Looking for a walking group? If so, meet at the Newville Trails Trailhead at 9:30 a.m. We will do some pre-walking stretches and walk for approximately 45 minutes to an hour and end with post walking stretches. Walking is at your own pace.
T’ai Chi for Arthritis for Fall Prevention - Tuesday’s at 10 a.m. - Held at First United Presbyterian Church, 111 W. Big Spring Ave., Newville. T’ai Chi will help you with balance. The cost is $3. Exact change please. Zoom is available if you can’t make it in person. Information to log in:

Jewelry Techniques & Jewelry Making with Kathleen Schungel - 1 p.m. on selected Tuesday’s of each month (please call the center for dates) - Kathleen Schungel, professional art instructor (retired) provides a class at the Big Spring Senior Center. Jewelry techniques to create a variety of jewelry items will be explored through demonstrations, practice and discovery. Pliers such as flat, round, needle, and half round pliers will be used with wire to make unique jewelry items. Bead stringing and weaving thread will also be used in addition to pliers with wire. You can remake jewelry from the past into new items or create jewelry with new materials. Listed below are some tools you may want to bring with you to class. However, do not purchase anything new until these items and products are reviewed during the first few classes. Once you see the materials you will have a better idea of what you may want to purchase.
*Any pliers that you may already have in your toolbox such as round nose, flat nose, needle nose, and half round pliers.
*Beads
*Various gage wires
*Beadalon or stringing wire
#Emery paper for sanding metal
#Beadalon weaving thread
*Goggles or eye glasses to protect your eyes while cutting wire.
Movement with Mindfulness (evolved from Yoga) - Wednesday’s at 8:30 a.m. - The class is held at First United Presbyterian Church , 111 W. Big Spring Ave., Newville. This class focuses on strength, improving balance, and accompanying each movement relaxes the mind and deepens one’s ability to surrender to its continuous flow. The cost for a 10-week program is $55 for members of Big Spring Senior Center, and $65 for non-members. Registration and payment are due before you start a class. Call 717-776-4478 to register. Taught by a YMCA Instructor.
Tea, Talk & Treats - Wednesday’s at 9:30 a.m. - Each week we have a new topic or activity. Come join us and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with a snack.
Blood Pressure Check - Every 4th Wednesday from 12:15 to 1 p.m. - Judy Heberlig, a retired nurse, volunteers her time to help you keep track of this important health indicator.
Bible Study with Pastor - Wednesday’s at 1 p.m. - For July and August, Pastor John Hess from the Newville Church of the Brethren will be teaching on Jonah.
Bike Club - Wednesday’s at 8 a.m. - Meet at the Trail Head in Newville.
Games - Thursday’s at 9:30 a.m. - Come play card games with our dedicated group of card players.
Play Board/Card Games - Thursday’s at 1 p.m. - Don’t ever consider playing games frivolous; studies show that it stimulates your brain, which helps counter the aging process. Just walk in.
Crafts - Tuesday’s at 9 a.m. - Each week, we have a different craft project. Come join us!
